Tony Stewart Returns to NASCAR! Trucks Race at Daytona After 10 Years! (2026)

Get ready, NASCAR fans! One of the sport's most legendary figures, Tony Stewart, is making a stunning comeback to the track. After a decade-long absence from NASCAR national-series events, 'Smoke' is set to ignite the Daytona International Speedway in next month's season-opening Truck Series race. This is HUGE!

Stewart, now 54 years old, will be behind the wheel of a Kaulig Racing entry, backed by Ram's innovative “Free Agent Driver Program.” This program strategically places high-profile drivers in the No. 25 Ram truck throughout the Truck Series season, NASCAR's third tier. The announcement, made just a month before the Daytona race, has sent shockwaves through the racing world.

Let's not forget, Stewart's legacy is immense. He's a three-time NASCAR Cup Series champion with an impressive 49 race wins under his belt from an illustrious 18-year career. His achievements earned him a well-deserved spot in the NASCAR Hall of Fame in 2020.

While Stewart hasn't been in a NASCAR race since 2016, he hasn't completely stepped away from the thrill of competition. He's been dominating the NHRA drag racing series, where he secured two victories and clinched the Top Fuel regular-season championship in 2025. His association with Stellantis, the parent company of Ram, played a key role in his return to NASCAR. This will be his first Truck Series appearance since 2005. Interestingly, Stewart is a two-time winner in the series, with both wins at Richmond in 2002 and 2003.

But here's where it gets controversial... or at least, interesting. The “Free Agent” program, announced by Kaulig in November, has been buzzing with speculation about Stewart's involvement. Given his connection with Stellantis (who also owns Ram), it's a perfect fit. Ram, through the Dodge brand, last competed in NASCAR in 2012. The company is also eyeing a return to the Cup Series, with hopes of racing at the top level in the future.

Stewart will be joining Kaulig's roster alongside full-time drivers like Daniel Dye, Justin Haley, and Brenden “Butterbean” Queen. The team will also be running a fifth full-time truck, with the driver being selected through a reality-show competition called “Race for the Seat.” The show, which debuts on Fox on January 25, will feature 15 drivers vying for the opportunity, with UFC CEO Dana White as an executive producer and commentator alongside Kaulig owner Matt Kaulig and Ram CEO Tim Kuniskis.
